What is the hormone relaxin?

The relaxin is a natural hormone that the body of female dogs and cats begins to produce when fertilization has occurred and pregnancy begins. This hormone helps prepare the uterus for the development of the fetuses, and it is present in significant amounts only if the animal is truly pregnant. This is why it is an ideal biomarker (indicator substance) for detecting pregnancy.

When should the test be performed?

The hormone relaxin generally appears in the blood at a level that the test can detect 20-30 days after mating. If the test is performed too early, the result may still be negative. Therefore, the best timing is around 3–4 weeks after the heat.

Test procedure

Read the Instructions for Use carefully before performing the test! Before testing, allow the test and the unopened reagent to reach room temperature (15-30°C).

Sample collection

1. Remove the safety cap of the single-use needle.

2. Then prick the edge of the cat's or dog's ear with the disposable needle.

3. When a full drop of blood appears, take the sample collection swab and collect the blood sample until the swab turns completely red and no longer absorbs more blood.

4. After sample collection, gently press the cat's or dog's ear to stop the bleeding.

Testing

1. Tear off the foil of the extraction tube and use the sterile sampling swab to collect the blood. Once the cotton-covered part of the swab has completely changed color and no longer absorbs more blood, place the swab into the tube containing the reagent, then rotate it several times against the inner wall of the tube. This completely dissolves the animal's whole blood in the sample diluent. Mix thoroughly, then close the tube and set it aside.

2. Tear open the aluminum foil pouch along the perforation, take out the test cassette and place it on a clean table. Slowly, holding the tube vertically, add 4 drops from the extraction tube into the sample well (S) of the test cassette, then start timing.

3. Read the result after 10-30 minutes; the result is invalid after 30 minutes. Note: Please read the results within the specified time: interpreting them too early or too late may lead to an incorrect result.
