Mycoplasma felis Antigen Rapid Test for Cats

Home test for detecting respiratory infections in cats. Mycoplasma felis is one of the most common bacterial pathogens causing upper respiratory tract disease in cats. Typical symptoms include watery eyes, nasal discharge, sneezing, and conjunctivitis. The Mycoplasma felis Antigen Rapid Test provides a quick and reliable solution for detecting the infection at home, as it can identify the presence of the pathogen in a cat’s eye or nasal discharge sample without the need for additional equipment.

What is Mycoplasma felis infection?

Mycoplasma felis is a bacterium primarily responsible for inflammation of the eyes and upper respiratory tract. It often occurs together with other pathogens such as:

  • Feline herpesvirus (FHV-1)

  • Calicivirus (FCV)

  • Chlamydia

The infection can spread quickly in closed environments, such as shelters or multi-cat households. Although it is rarely severe on its own, in young, elderly, or immunocompromised cats it can lead to serious complications if not detected in time.

What symptoms should you look out for?

Possible signs of Mycoplasma felis infection include:

  • Watery, inflamed eyes

  • Conjunctivitis (red, swollen eyelids)

  • Watery or purulent nasal discharge

  • Sneezing, coughing

  • Loss of appetite, lethargy

If your cat shows several of these symptoms, it is recommended to perform the rapid test.

Test Procedure

Before starting, carefully read the instructions for use! Allow the test and unopened reagent to reach room temperature (15–30°C).

  1. Tear open the aluminum foil pouch along the notch, remove the test cassette, and place it on a clean, flat surface. Collect the eye or nasal discharge with the sterile swab, then remove the foil from the extraction tube. Insert the swab into the extraction tube and rotate it in the reagent for at least 10 seconds.

  2. While doing this, press the swab against the tube wall at least five times to release the sample thoroughly. Then squeeze the tube around the swab to extract as much liquid as possible before removing the swab. Close the tube.

  3. Add 3 drops of the mixture into the sample well of the test cassette.

  4. Wait for the colored lines to appear. Read the result after 10 minutes. Results after 30 minutes are invalid.
