Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) Rapid Test

FIV, or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, is a serious, long-lasting infection that attacks the immune system and may remain hidden for years. This rapid test is specifically designed to detect antibodies against FIV in whole blood, serum, or plasma, enabling quick identification of infection either at home or in veterinary practice.

What is FIV?

FIV, also known as “Feline AIDS,” is a chronic condition caused by a retrovirus that weakens the cat’s immune system. The infection may remain asymptomatic for years, but later it can lead to severe complications. It spreads most commonly through bites, making outdoor male cats particularly vulnerable.

Possible symptoms of FIV infection:

  • Frequent fever and inflammation

  • Recurrent infections

  • Weight loss, loss of appetite

  • Swollen lymph nodes

  • Gingivitis, oral problems

The earlier the infection is detected, the better the disease and its consequences can be managed.

Who should use this test?

  • Owners of outdoor or aggressive cats

  • Veterinary clinics, shelters, breeders

  • Screening before adoption

If you want certainty about your cat’s health, this test is a valuable tool for early detection and initiating appropriate veterinary care. The kit includes all necessary tools for simple sampling and immediate results.

  4. When a drop of blood appears, use the swab to collect the sample.

  5. After sampling, press the puncture site gently to stop bleeding.

Note: Whole blood must be tested immediately.

Test Procedure

Before testing, carefully read the instructions for use! Allow the test and unopened reagent to reach room temperature (15–30°C). Use the test cassette within 1 hour of opening the foil pouch. At temperatures above 30°C or in high humidity, use as soon as possible.

Whole blood:

  1. Remove the foil seal from the extraction tube. Insert the blood-soaked swab into the tube with reagent, then rotate it several times against the inner wall to fully dissolve the blood in the buffer. Mix thoroughly, close the tube, and set aside. Tear open the aluminum pouch along the notch, remove the test cassette, and place it on a clean, flat surface. Holding the tube vertically, add 4 drops of the mixture into the sample well (S) of the test cassette. Start timing immediately.

  2. Wait for the colored lines to appear. Read the result within 10–30 minutes. Results after 30 minutes are invalid.
