Ehrlichia Antibody Rapid Test for Dogs

For early detection of tick-borne infection.

Ehrlichia canis is a bacterium mainly transmitted by ticks that can cause ehrlichiosis, a severe and potentially life-threatening disease in dogs. The infection often develops insidiously, showing only mild symptoms at first, which makes early detection crucial for effective treatment.

What is the purpose of this rapid test?

This in vitro rapid test detects antibodies against Ehrlichia canis in a dog’s whole blood, serum, or plasma. It is quick, easy to use, and does not require special laboratory equipment.

What is Ehrlichiosis?

Ehrlichiosis is a bacterial infection transmitted by the brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus). The pathogen attacks white blood cells and can progress in three phases:

Acute phase:

  • Fever

  • Loss of appetite

  • Lethargy

  • Swollen lymph nodes

Latent phase:

  • Apparently symptom-free, but the pathogen remains in the body

Chronic phase:

  • Severe anemia

  • Bleeding disorders

  • Eye problems

  • Weight loss

  • Immunodeficiency

When detected early, the disease can be successfully treated with antibiotics. Without treatment, however, it can cause irreversible damage.

Testing Procedure

Before testing, carefully read the instructions for use! Allow the test and unopened reagent to reach room temperature (15-30°C).

Sample collection - Whole blood:

  1. Use a disposable lancet and swab for sample collection.

  2. Remove the safety cap from the lancet.

  3. Gently prick the edge of the dog’s ear with the lancet.

  4. When a drop of blood appears, use the swab to collect the sample.

  5. After sampling, press gently on the puncture site to stop bleeding.

Test procedure:

1.A. Whole blood samples

  • Remove the foil seal from the extraction tube. Insert the blood-soaked swab into the tube with reagent and rotate it several times against the inner wall until the blood is fully dissolved in the diluent. Mix thoroughly, close the tube, and set aside.

  • Open the aluminum pouch along the notch, remove the test cassette, and place it on a clean surface.

  • Holding the tube vertically, add 4 drops of the prepared solution into the sample well (S) of the test cassette. Start timing immediately.

1.B. Serum/plasma samples

  • Open the aluminum pouch along the notch, remove the test cassette, and place it on a clean surface.

  • Using the pipette, collect approx. 75 μL of serum/plasma (about 3 drops) and apply it into the sample well (S). Start timing immediately.

  • If the sample has been refrigerated, warm it to 15-25°C before testing.

2. Result reading

  • Read the result within 10-30 minutes. Results are invalid after 30 minutes.
