Feline Calicivirus (Cat Flu) Rapid Test (1 pc/box)

Feline calicivirus (FCV) is a highly contagious disease causing “cat flu.” The virus attacks the respiratory tract—primarily the upper airways and lung lobes—and causes ulcerations on the tongue and oral mucosa. It is commonly observed in unvaccinated cats, especially in breeding facilities or poorly ventilated, unhygienic households. Cats of all ages can become infected, but kittens older than six weeks are most vulnerable.

Symptoms of feline calicivirus infection include:

  • Sneezing, nasal discharge

  • Fever, lethargy

  • Oral ulcers and excessive drooling

  • Loss of appetite and weight loss

  • Joint pain and lameness

  • Pneumonia and difficulty breathing in severe cases

The prognosis depends on symptom severity. Survival rates are approximately 50%. Cats with uncomplicated pneumonia typically recover within 3–4 days of treatment. However, pneumonia can be fatal, especially in kittens. Ulcers on the tongue and paws, as well as joint inflammation, usually heal without complications.

Test Procedure

Please read the Instructions for Use carefully before starting! Allow the test device and the unopened reagent to reach room temperature (15-30 °C).

  1. Collect a nasal discharge sample from the cat with the swab, then open the collection tube. Insert the swab into the tube containing the reagent solution and swirl for at least 10 seconds.

  2. At the same time, press the swab head against the inner wall of the tube at least five times to ensure complete mixing. Remove the swab and close the tube.

  3. Place the test cassette on a flat surface. Add 3 drops of the diluted sample into the sample well.

  4. Wait for the colored lines to appear. Read the result after 10 minutes. Do not interpret after 30 minutes, as results will be invalid.
