Rabies is a seriously dangerous viral disease that can threaten any mammal species, including humans. The disease is usually spread by predators and small mammals, and is transmitted through the bite of an infected animal. The virus attacks the nervous system and, if not treated in time, can be fatal.

The best protection against rabies is vaccination, for both animals and humans. It's important that pets are regularly vaccinated, and that contact with unknown or suspiciously behaving animals is avoided. With regular testing and vaccination, this serious disease can be avoided, keeping both ourselves and our pets safe. The rapid test, using a saliva sample, helps diagnose rabies in small animals.

Symptoms of rabies in dogs and cats:

1. Early symptoms

• Behavioral changes (unusual fear, aggression, or excessive friendliness)
• Fever, lethargy
• Drooling, difficulty swallowing

2. Furious form (more common in dogs)

• Unprovoked aggressive behavior, biting
• Hyperactivity, restlessness
• Sensitivity to light and sound
• Uncontrolled muscle twitching

3. Paralytic (dumb) form (more common in cats)

• Coordination problems, paralysis
• Paralysis of the jaw and throat (unable to drink or eat)
• Quiet, apathetic behavior

A fatal virus! There is no cure, it can only be prevented by vaccination. If rabies is suspected, seek veterinary care immediately!

Testing procedure

Before performing the test, please carefully read the instructions for use! Before testing, allow the test and unopened reagent to reach room temperature (15-30°C).

1. Collect the saliva sample using the sampling swab, then open the sample tube. Place the sampling swab into the tube filled with reagent liquid, and rotate the swab for at least 10 seconds.

2. At the same time, press the tip of the sampling swab against the wall of the tube at least five times to ensure the sample mixes thoroughly. Then remove the swab and close the tube.

3. Place the rapid test on a flat surface. Add 3 drops of the diluted sample into the sample well of the test.

4. Wait for the colored bands to appear! The result should be read after 10 minutes. After 30 minutes the result is invalid.
