Cat Herpesvirus Rapid Test

Feline herpesvirus causes the majority of upper respiratory infections in cats. This highly contagious viral disease affects a large portion of the cat family. It causes an illness often compared to the common cold in humans. Symptoms range widely from mild sneezing, nasal discharge, and eye secretion to severe illness requiring hospitalization and intensive care.

The virus can infect any cat but is most common in kittens younger than 6 months. Primary symptoms include lethargy, sneezing, loss of appetite, eye and nasal discharge, and fever. Additional symptoms may include conjunctivitis, lethargy, drooling, skin and eye ulcers. The disease primarily targets the upper respiratory tract and eyes. The rapid test helps detect feline herpesvirus infection.

Symptoms of Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1):

  • Eye and nasal discharge (watery or purulent)

  • Conjunctivitis, swollen, red eyes

  • Sneezing, nasal congestion

  • Fever, lethargy

  • Loss of appetite, weight loss

  • Difficulty breathing, wheezing

  • Corneal ulcers (in severe cases)

Especially dangerous for kittens and immunocompromised cats; untreated infection can cause serious complications.
