Panleukopenia is a viral infection caused by the feline panleukopenia virus, a member of the genus Parvovirus. The viruses primarily attack rapidly dividing cells in the bone marrow, the lymphatic system and the intestinal epithelium. The incubation period of the disease is approximately 2-10 days. The viruses are highly resistant and can easily survive for several months. Therefore, especially where several cats live together, there is always a certain risk that the disease will spread. Other common names for panleukopenia include feline fever, agranulocytosis or feline plague. In addition to the feline panleukopenia virus, cats can also be infected by viruses responsible for canine parvovirus.

Feline coronavirus (FCoV) is a common viral infection in cats. It usually causes an asymptomatic infection, but it may also cause mild diarrhea. Various mutations of the virus can also lead to the development of feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). Most cats infected with FCoV recover after the infection, but in some cats a persistent infection may develop.

Symptoms of Feline Panleukopenia Virus (Feline Distemper):

• High fever, lethargy
• Vomiting, diarrhea (possibly bloody)
• Loss of appetite, dehydration
• Painful, tense abdomen
• Weakness, tremors
• Decreased white blood cell count (severe immunodeficiency)

Highly contagious and can be fatal, especially in kittens! Preventable by vaccination.

Symptoms of Feline Coronavirus (FCoV):

• Mild, self-limiting diarrhea
• Mild lethargy
• Runny nose, sneezing (rarely)

Most cats get through it without symptoms, but in some cases the virus can mutate into FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), which can be fatal!

Test procedure

Read the Instructions for Use carefully before performing the test! Before testing, allow the test and the unopened reagent to reach room temperature (15-30°C).

1. Collect a fresh fecal sample with the sampling swab, then open the sampling tube. Place the swab into the tube filled with reagent solution and rotate the swab for at least 10 seconds.

2. At the same time, press the end of the sampling swab against the wall of the tube at least five times so that the sample is thoroughly mixed. Then remove the sampling swab and close the tube.

3. Place the rapid test on a flat surface. Add 3 drops of the diluted sample to the sample well of the test.

4. Wait for the colored lines to appear! The result must be read after 10 minutes. After 30 minutes the result is invalid.
